Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy
PRP: bringing skin back to life!

At LaserRenew, we are proud to introduce a new service aimed at helping your skin look healthier and younger. PRP (platelet rich plasma) therapy is a safe, risk-free way of achieving noticeable, long-lasting skin rejuvenation without the need for medication or surgery.

So what is PRP?

PRP is the fluid part of your blood that contains special cells called platelets. Platelets contain chemicals that are vital for wound healing, for example after an accident or operation.

What does PRP treatment involve?

A small sample of you blood is taken from a vein in your arm, much like any other blood test. This blood is then spun in a centrifuge until all of the red blood cells move to the bottom, and the fluid part sits on top. This is the platelet rich plasma (PRP). This fluid is then injected into the areas of skin that you are unhappy with. We recommend a series of three injections over a few months, with a top-up treatment once a year.

How does it work?

Once they have been injected into the skin, the platelets are activated and they release their chemicals. This stimulates the skin to increase blood flow to the area, new collagen is formed (the springy substance that makes skin look and feel firm), and the skin undergoes rejuvenation. This is all part of the body’s natural healing process.

Is it safe?

Very! PRP therapy has been used for some time now to treat sports injuries, and is very effective. As you are receiving only your own blood, there is no risk of allergic reactions and no synthetic substances are used.

What kind of skin conditions can be treated with PRP?

PRP therapy is effective in reducing the appearance of wrinkles, tired and sagging skin, and any areas that have lost firmness. This includes the forehead, around the eyes, cheeks, around the mouth, and neck. PRP can also be used to treat certain blemishes, such as acne marks, as well dark bags around the eyes.

PRP for Sports Injuries

PRP is not just for cosmetic skin treatment it can also be used on sports injuries. At LaserRenew we also have experienced sports physicians who can use PRP on a number of musculo-skeletal, ligament and tendon injuries such as tennis elbow etc.

Is PRP therapy appropriate for everyone?

Unfortunately no. Although most people could benefit from PRP therapy, certain groups of people are not suitable. These include:

1) Smokers don’t tend to experience good results
2) Anyone with a blood clotting disorder, people on warfarin, or have an underlying skin disease should not have this treatment.
